Pla de l'Aigua Underground Reservoir

The Dipòsit del Pla de l’Aigua was the first potable water reservoir in Lleida, built at the end of the 18th century to supply the city.

It is an underground building, covered by six barrel vaults supported by 25 pillars. The work began in 1784 and ended eight years later.

The water to fill it came from the Pinyana canal, was stored in the reservoir and from there was distributed throughout the city through a tunnel and six monumental fountains, many of which are still preserved today, such as the fountain of the Rose, that of the Tritons, that of the Teaching and that of the Hospital.

The tank was in service until the middle of the 20th century, when it became obsolete with the new home water distribution network and the increase in consumption. In 1996 it was emptied to make it open for visitors. Today it is part of the Lleida Water Museum.
