The Marshes of Rufea, near the hermitage of Butsènit, are a space recovered for naturalistic and educational uses which make it possible to understand and enjoy the characteristics of this wetland zone of ecological interest through the pools, riverbank forests and fauna pertaining to it.
To the south of Lleida lies one of the municipality’s wildest marshes. A former gravel quarry, it is now an immense pond where thousands of seasonal or migrating birds live and stop. A very pleasant trail has been blazed around it, with a pair of huts for observing the birds without bothering them. There is also a tower with exceptional panoramic views.
Surrounded by typical wetland vegetation like poplars, tamarisks or alders, in the marshes it is common to see moorhens, kingfishers, mallards or marsh harriers.
