The Pla de l'Aigua Reservoir is the first potable water reservoir in the city of Lleida. Converted into an interpretation center, it was built in 1784 with the aim of supplying the city with drinking water, in order to overcome the deficiencies of medieval Lleida and combat epidemics.
The water that filled it came from the Pinyana canal and was distributed to the population through five monumental fountains: the Ensenyança, the Roser, the Cathedral, Sant Francesc and Sant Joan, popularly known like that of the Sirens.
It is a large building, built with 25 stone pilasters and covered by six barrel vaults. Its capacity is 9 million liters and it is known as the "Water Cathedral".
It constitutes a magnificent and surprising space, unknown to many and that we can enjoy in all its splendor.
