Located at the city’s northeast end, La Mitjana is an exceptional riverside park. The river defines this area of 90 ha. declared in 1979 Area of Natural Interest characterizing its flora and fauna.
At its entrance, a small dam turns this section of the Segre River into a pool, around which a small forest grew and marshes formed. Now, it is now one of the favourite places of the inhabitants of Lleida to do sport and walk. In addition, it has an Interpretation Center that offers information and guided tours.
La Carbonera area is a family recreation area, with an artificial pond, picnic tables and a playground with wooden structures.
For the most adventurous, the paths winding into the forest will take them to the bird observatories on the edge of the pools, the small dock and the footbridge which crosses the river, where there are always birds and kayakers practising sport.
In areas with water, the mallard, the gull, the white martin and the kingfisher live together. The area is frequented by different birds of prey such as the buzzard, the sparrowhawk or even the osprey. Amphibians and reptiles are represented by the water snake, the green frog and the toad. We also find fish such as barbel and pike and mammals such as wild boar or fox.
La Mitjana is a privileged place for the observation of nature, the practice of sport and leisure.
