The old municipal slaughterhouse, a modernist building from 1918, is today a first-rate socio-cultural facility.
The main room has 310 seats. In addition, there is a second space dedicated to experimental and multidisciplinary art. And, the third scenic space is completed by the Cafè del Teatre, a multipurpose space open to the public and intended for presentations, concerts, conventions and paratheatrical activities. Another space is the Julieta Agustí Municipal Theatre, with 185 seats and located in the old Convent of Santa Teresa. The building also maintains the dome of the old slaughterhouse.
Frederic Amat is the author of the impressive Mural de les Banyes (Wall of the Horns) that presides over the hall. It is a 7 x 7.5 m mural, which gives prominence to the ceramic material presented as large plates or doors, above which stand out the more than five hundred fired clay horns hanging on the wall.
The Teatre de l'Escorxador is also home to the Municipal Theater Room. Dramatic art studies, interesting interpretation workshops and monographic courses are offered in this space.
