Description

The Castle of the Templar Knights of Gardeny offers visitors an exciting journey through one of the most interesting and controversial religious communities in our history.

When in the spring of 1149, the count of Barcelona Ramon Berenguer IV began the siege of the Muslim city of Lleida from the same hill of Gardeny, he counted on the collaboration of the Templar militia, which contributed with sending military cash. Once the city was conquered, and in gratitude for their participation, the count himself gave the militia several assets, including the Gardeny hill itself.

Today, after more than 800 years, we can discover what the Templar house in Gardeny was like. We can learn about and relive the ideals of the Order of the Temple, and how the monastic militia lived.

With the intention that those who visit it, be they families or groups of friends, can find out the function of each of the spaces of the castle and relive the daily life of the Templars, different objects recreated based on to originals of the time are used, such as a military harness from the mid-thirteenth century military harness, which visitors will have to use as such.

Program

Through this visit, the old Order of Gardeny invites you to tour its rooms and experience in each space what the day-to-day life of a Knight Templar was like, as well as the different members who were part of the community.

What should the daily life of the Templars be like in one of their orders? What they ate, how they dressed, where they kept their goods and how they obtained them, how they prepared for battle, who could be a Templar…

To resolve these and other doubts about this military order, the best way is to become “Templar for a Day”.

It consists of a dynamic family visit by Nomon Turisme Cultural, especially recommended for families who want to feel like a 13th century Templar.

So if you want to know the Order of the Templar Knights in a rigorous and fun way, while visiting an unknown castle, you must dare to become a "Templar for a Day".
